Our Approach

At The Anxiety Center, our approach to treating disruptive behavior disorders is comprehensive and holistic, integrating multiple evidence-based strategies to address the multifaceted nature of these conditions. We primarily utilize a behavioral approach, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients manage anger and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Through CBT, patients learn to identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns, ultimately reducing aggressive behaviors. Our treatment plan also includes contingency management, where we use positive reinforcement to encourage desirable behaviors and diminish negative ones. Social skills training is another key component, helping individuals improve their interactions and build meaningful relationships. We also incorporate elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to enhance emotional regulation and distress tolerance. Recognizing the importance of a supportive environment, we actively involve family systems in the therapeutic process and frequently collaborate with schools to ensure a consistent and supportive approach across different settings. While there are limited evidence-based medications for these disorders, we sometimes utilize medications like SSRIs, in conjunction with therapy, to manage symptoms effectively. Our holistic approach ensures that each patient receives a tailored treatment plan that addresses their unique needs, promoting long-term positive outcomes.
