Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

What is TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has emerged as a revolutionary treatment for mental health conditions, particularly for those who have not responded to conventional therapies. At The Anxiety Center, we specialize in administering TMS therapy, known for its effectiveness and safety profile. TMS is FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is being explored for experimental uses such as PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder. TMS works by using magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, particularly in regions involved in mood regulation. This process helps reset brain function, alleviating symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions. Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS) is a more advanced form that penetrates deeper into the brain, stimulating broader regions and potentially enhancing treatment effectiveness. Deep TMS uses specialized coils that generate magnetic pulses to reach deeper brain structures, providing a comprehensive approach to modulating neural activity. At The Anxiety Center, we are committed to providing cutting-edge treatments like TMS and Deep TMS to improve our patients' quality of life, offering hope and effective solutions for individuals struggling with mental health challenges.

Our Approach

At The Anxiety Center (TAC), we take a personalized approach to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy, adhering to FDA-approved protocols that dictate specific "recipes" for validated and covered delivery methods. While we operate within these guidelines, we also consider experimental approaches showing efficacy, even if not yet approved or covered by insurance, carefully weighing the pros and cons to support informed patient decisions. Our trained clinicians optimize TMS as part of a holistic treatment package, integrating it with other therapies like ketamine infusions and ketamine-assisted CBT for treatment-resistant depression or acute suicidal thoughts. Each patient's journey begins with a comprehensive assessment to tailor a personalized treatment plan, ensuring maximum efficacy and comfort throughout their therapy.

The Anxiety Center is a remarkable place in that it believes that its employees are its most valuable asset. • Treatment Programs
Our center runs four separate programs. The first is our assessment program which conducts neuropsychological, psychoeducational, executive functioning, and autism evaluations. We focus on delivering accurate, timely, and accessible reports written for the family and directly linked to the child's or adult's intervention needs. Secondly, we have an anxiety program which treats the full range of anxiety and OC spectrum disorders. Treatment protocols in the anxiety clinic are heavily based on current research in exposure therapy, but include other cognitive behavioral strategies based on the individual needs of the patient. Thirdly, we have a mood disorders program which treats depressive disorders, bipolar spectrum disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, suicidality and self-harm. Treatment in our mood program focuses on core CBT, mindfulness-based treatment, and behavioral activation. The level of integration of each facet depends on the child's needs and response to treatment. Finally, our co-occurring behavior program will take on cases of oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, ADHD, and autism related agression and social skills development. This program is grounded in behavior analysis with moderate integration of cognitive techniques when indicated. While we do welcome all applicants, it will be important to consider if our approach to treatment is a good match for your interest and skill set. We value the contributions of all those in the mental health field, but one of our core values is to deliver treatment that is firmly established in scientific research. If this value is in aligment with the way that you approach treatment and you are willing to engage in harnassing your skills in empirical treatment, then we believe you may be an incredible asset to our team.
