Binge-Eating Disorder

Individuals with Binge Eating Disorder often eat in secret and may consume food even when not physically hungry. Unlike Bulimia Nervosa, individuals with Binge Eating Disorder do not regularly use compensatory behaviors such as vomiting or excessive exercise. Common symptoms include eating much more rapidly than normal, eating until uncomfortably full, eating large amounts of food when not physically hungry, eating alone due to embarrassment, and feeling disgusted, depressed, or very guilty afterward. The exact causes of Binge Eating Disorder are not fully understood but are believed to involve a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors.
